Evening primrose oil
Evening Primrose is a typically low-growing plant with entirely unusual properties. Its oil has been used for centuries in medicine and cosmetics to relieve many skin reactions, stomach problems, and sex hormone function problems, above all providing good mood and mood.
Evening Primrose is the common name for plants of the Enotherra family, which includes several dozen species. The most valuable of the evening primrose contained in its seeds. Cold pressed evening primrose oil contains large amounts of highly essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), linolenic (LA) and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which have a wide range of activities. For example, they affect the function of cell membranes and intercellular spaces and maintain hydration of the body. Linoleic acid is one of the omega-6 acids that regulate physiological processes and biochemical reactions in the body. In itself, the human body is unable to synthesize it, which is why it regularly procured. Beneficial effects of linoleic acid on the skin have known for a long time, so it is often present in cosmetics. Evening primrose oil contains up to 70% of this unsaturated fatty acid. In contrast, gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which also belongs to the omega-6 acid family, is produced in the body in the presence of a particular enzyme – D-6-D. This acid has a positive effect on the balance of triglycerides and lipids in the human body. It also participates in the production of tissue hormones called prostaglandins regulating blood pressure. GLA strengthens the natural defense of the body (for example, it contained in breast milk). The presence of this acid is infrequent and unusual for plants, but evening primrose oil contains up to 9% GLA. Other fatty acids include oleic, palmitic and stearic acids, as well as sulfur-rich phytosterols and tryptophan proteins, zinc, selenium, magnesium, calcium and vitamin E. The abundance of these active ingredients makes the modest evening primrose in one of the most valuable plants used in the production of food supplements.
